i gave my plants new homes today
bigger pots, space to spread
others, i fed soil fresh from the garden
my fingers are tipped in brown
the bottoms of my feet blackened

there was not enough sun to satisfy
you know i am reptilian
scaly in the winter, solar-powered
i thought i was fine, i really did
so i looked at an apartment for a friend

i glanced at you in alternating moments
heavy in the back of my mind
weighing down my history
you were pushy then, you push me
you are secure in your place, but i am falling
