You have a very funny blog! I couldn’t agree with you more about finally doing stuff like burning hoarded candles or eating the occasional cupcake. Living in the moment is a wonderful way to cultivate happiness.

Hi Cheryl! Always a pleasure to read your blogposts! 😊 Did enjoy the misconceptions about middle age post! I personally grew braver once reaching “middle age” …. I had my navel pierced & my first tattoo done at the age of 42… and had 2 more boys to add to my brood… and as for points 9 &11… 😜

I have to agree. I’m also sort of the opposite. In my late twenties I was never as brave as I am now. Let’s not talk about the piercing Armageddon my dad poor guy almost had a stroke when he saw my industrial bar, my conch, my daith and my nose. If you see me you’d have no idea I’d even have any inclination to get tattoos or piercings. I figured I might as well try it all . Life is too short!

      2. cheryloreglia

Thank you Linda! You are brave indeed! Haha, # 9 got to you, my cousin hailed me from Texas just to claim the quantity and quality are both up (so to speak) in her neck of the woods. Thanks for stopping by.

Hello. My name is Louis Launer. I am in St. Peters, Missouri. I have been writing for 33 years, since college. My published work includes history, features, profiles and sports for various newspapers, magazines and web sites. I am currently working on essays and I am also writing young adult novels. Three are published. The fourth novel debuts in April.

I want to hear about your favorite genre to write . Also, share your bio and tell us about your book projects ! Getting to know you ,

      1. Louis Launer

I do not have a blog…yet. My web site is down. I don’t know when that will return. I love writing and I am taking advantage of the extra wind in my sails to fulfill many projects I put off as long as eight years ago.

  2. Louis Launer

My favorite genre I like to write is young adult. I published my first novel, Rurals and Townies in 2014. It is the first of a series of novels set in a high school setting. Other books in the series include Rurals Rule: Molly’s Revenge; Townies Turn: Molly’s Challenge. The fourth in the series which comes out April 28 is Rurals on Top: Molly’s Triumph.

I have also begun a new YA series. This series has a science fiction and superhero twist, featuring two 16-year-olds who are high school students during the day and agents of The Consortium at night. This series is set in the Pacific Northwest. The first novel is called The 17th Discovery. A second novel in the series has just begun.

The 17th Discovery has not published yet. It is with a final reader right now. Last September and October, I had a ball writing this superhero story. I was inspired to write it on many fronts. It was also a change of pace from writing my realistic YA novels. I had new characters, new setting and new situations. I also wanted to write a novel set in Astoria and Seaside, Oregon (along with situations taking place in Anchorage, Portland, Seattle and the Pacific Ocean).

Surprisingly, I have begun a second novel in the series which takes my two 16-year-old superheroes and their four trainees into outer space. Can they resolve an interstellar conflict in time before their high school term papers are due?

Hi all, I’m Charles. I’m a practicing Buddhist and meditation teacher who shares my story of living with depression so that others may find inspiration.

I talk a lot about my crazy past because sometimes I can’t believe I’m still alive. But, I also share tips and techniques that I use to cope with anxiety and depression. Here’s a link to a piece on forgiveness: https://www.charlesminguez.com/forgiveness/

I’m looking forward to connecting with some new writers and excited to see all the changes happening at OTV. Thanks for hosting this Link Up!

Lydia, thank you for the kind words!

Meditation is such a lovely and powerful practice but I have to admit that it took me years to get to that place of sending love to my abuser.

I find it helpful to start with smaller objects of cherishing, like gratitude for my morning coffee and all the hands that took part in me enjoying it and then work my way up to the more challenging objects. It definitely takes time.

Thanks again and I’m looking forward to receiving your blogs posts! Cheers

Hi Charles! Beautiful post on forgiveness. I admire you. I admire the strength you have to forgive someone who was so abusive. Not sure I would be able to. But then again I haven’t been in your position.Until you’ve experienced first hand things you don’t really know how you’d react, I found. Sometimes you can surprise yourself. Thanks for sharing ❤️

Hi Charles, I teach a comparative course in World Religions, and your Buddhist practice caught my eye. I checked out your link to the piece on forgiveness and found it very inspiring. Your story brings up such difficult emotions. I am so sorry you had to live under such an abusive person but the fact you were able to forgive was amazing to me. I look forward to exploring more of your work.

I hope you find a publisher for your memoir soon. It sounds like it’s going to be a very good one.

I really liked your blog post about not writing every day. Sometimes I write in spurts, and at other times I write diligently every day. The right answer to that question is going to be different for everyone.

I have developed a writers block as of late. I subdue myself writing only when feeling compelled. My background as an investigative journalist & Editorial writer /News Producer had left me wondering if anyone actually cared. Launching OTV was my way of sharing with the world the collective of voices of the world always share common ground. I remember the day I covered a local story as an intern . It was such a horrible story to tell but I had to cover it. Years later I realized that I wasn’t in control of my own voice or message. What was produced was not the heart of the story. You need to enjoy writing. You need to have faith in your voice & believe in it. Don’t forget why you started writing . Don’t doubt for one second that your story shouldn’t be heard!

          1. Catherine Lanser

I worked as a journalist for a while too and didn’t like it for the same reason. I like telling true stories, but through my own lens. (I thought I posted this earlier, hopefully I’m not repeating myself)

That is very true. You need to enjoy writing. Every article I write; every essay I write; Every history; and every YA novel, I try to have a lot of fun.

I don’t write often on the pages of OTV because I know that when I write I am sort of a distraction. Readers have learned that I only write when I am compelled to. I write straight from my heart. If my inner dragon burns hot my writing will be clear. I do use different “voices” when writing in order to share the complexity of my personality. I don’t like writing about certain topics only because I read so many amazing authors that I feel said it best. OTV is a reflection of me . My team, our columnist along with our editors and of course Heidi all make OTV a publication unlike any other . I am still moving content from old site that I wrote . As I moved them I realized things had changed . The story of my life evolved . For little over a year I stepped back to focus on working & finding myself . Thanks to all the incredible submissions I was able to revive myself ,find myself and fortify myself. The origin of OTV was pivotal for this journey . Surgery is coming up & I feel frazzled. I have amazing regulars who knock it out of the park . I’m looking for a short story fiction author and a book review team member . If you have an idea for a column pitch it. I will be offering packages exclusive to those who I’ve published & are in my closed fan page group. Don’t forget to invite your friends who are authors & publishers. I am going to do many thing to help authors promote themselves. Email me about your books . I have ideas

Hey, party people! I’m SO glad we have this space to connect and support one another. I’m looking forward to being more involved at OTV and having my mind blown by all the great content that goes up. I’m dropping a link to an older post on my (somewhat neglected) site. I’m making some changes there soon — getting rid of the blog-style pieces that no longer reflect my vision. I’m a full-time magazine staff writer and part-time freelance copy writer/ editor, so when I write for leisure, the content is typically more emotional. This is how I clear the “soul clutter” and motivate myself. I can only hope it motivates you, too. 🙂
