Meet Dori Owen: Featured Author and Columnist in Residence

Dori Owen is a storyteller.

She writes from her home town in Arizona, after living a few decades “abroad” in California as an LA Wild Child, with a brief stop in Reno where she was married and divorced. Twice.

She settled into grown-up life as a government project manager, collecting an MBA and a few more husbands along the way. She is a shown artist and her favorite pastimes are painting, knitting, and upcycling furniture she collects from thrift stores.

She lives with her rescued terrier, Olivia Twist, and the cat who came to visit but decided to stay. The love of her life is her grown son, a teacher who lives in Portland, Oregon.

Dori is a columnist for FeminineCollective.com as Diary of an Arizona Girl. Her essays and poems have been published in RAW & UNFILTERED VOL I, Stigma Fighters Vol 2, and Love Notes From Humanity. Her blogs have been featured here on Open Thought Vortex, as well as The Lithium Chronicles, Sudden Denouement, and The Mighty.

What is your favorite genre?

This is one of the most difficult questions I am asked. I am an avid reader, often reading a Kindle book, hardcover book, and listening to a book on CD at any one time. What I read most are mysteries, contemporary fiction, poetry, literary classics, historical biographies, and young adult fiction.

A few of my all time favorite books are, The Great Gatsby, Catcher in the Rye, Atlas Shrugged, Wuthering Heights, My Antonia, and The Bell Jar. The expanded list is in volumes! Fun fact:  my mother taught me how to read before I was three years old.

What’s your most loved published piece?

When the Parent Becomes the Child

A story about caring for aging parents. I cry every time I read it.

Brag, tell OTV readers where to find you & read more.
